What It's About

NodePad or "NP", deals with juwo files just like media players use audiovisual files, word processors use formatted files and internet browsers use html files.

In Create Mode you can create hierarchical lists of blocks and attach snippets of audio, video, links and your own custom cues, to them. The hierarchical arrangement you create is called a “juwo”.

In Playback Mode, you can view the layout of the juwo and skip to the points you want to. When you click Play All, all snippets of the juwo play. The audio, video and link channels at a node play in parallel.

When you view a juwo owned by someone else, you can provide your own commentary by adding titles, notes, and snippets. You can even use a microphone to record and attach your comments. This commentary is called an “eddy”.

Labels or cues can be attached to nodes. This tells the user at a glance, what the content is at the node. For example, key can mean 'key' or important. The labels can be customized to the user’s preference, or to his jargon.

Problems?

'Unknown File' and most problems!

If after clicking the link to launch NP, you get a message saying "unknown file", then your computer requires Java 1.5 or later and it could not be automatically installed.

  • Download java free from here, and install it.
  • Press Shift-Click on your internet browser to refresh the web page.
  • If there are still problems, remove old instances of NP
    1. Open a command line window. (On Windows you would go to Start, Run and then type command and press OK). Type javaws. The Java Web Start Manager comes up. Select and remove all instances of Nodepad.
    2. Go to your Home directory. (On Windows, this is C:\Documents and Settings. Then click on the folder with your user name). If you customized NP, the settings are stored in two configuration files. Make a copy of, and then delete nodepad_config.xml and nodepad_ui.properties. Your settings may have to be input when NP launches, in the Tools, Options menu.
'Please help me locate...' message when trying to Play or Play All.

The location of the source has changed. For example, if the juwo refers to an audio file that you downloaded, it needs to know where it is now. The File Chooser is asking you to locate and select the file.

No picture or sound from audio-video snippets

Close any other instances of the media player that are running on your computer.
